SEEN 7.11 Southampton news

We are holding our annual BioBlitz on campus on 10th June and looking for student volunteers. Come along to find as many species on campus as possible and learn from local natural historians. We also have free t-shirts! If you’re interested, please email me.

Dave Hubble from Southampton Natural History Society (members will be at BioBlitz) has sent a request to its members, that I’m extending to you – Wondering if you could send an email round to the SNHS list asking for more Agelastica alni (alder leaf beetle) records – although they are common enough not to require all local records simply for distribution purposes, they have recently been reported defoliating apple trees. This is new behaviour for the UK (it’s well known on the continent) and they are also known on other Rosaceae. So, if people could send records to me including the plant host along with the usual location, date, approx numbers and recorder name, that would be much appreciated so I can follow what’s happening, with the aim of writing something for The Coleopterist (and the next SNHS Annual Report of course!).
