Voluntary placements at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust – from Debbie Dawkins at the wildlife trust
We have just advertised 2 long term voluntary placements on our website at http://www.hiwwt.org.uk/work-experience. One is for a Volunteer Ecology Placement working with our ecology team undertaking surveys and associated activities. The other is for a Volunteer South Downs Reserves Placement working with our reserves officer on a range of estate management activities including stock and habitat management. They are both long term but not full time so may suit part time students who want to gain experience alongside study.
GapFORCE Project
Career Destinations is partnering with the international volunteering organisation, GapFORCE (http://www.gapforce.org/), to offer a small number of voluntary placements abroad this summer. You can apply for the chance to take part in a community project in one of three different countries:
- South Africa
- Ghana
- Cambodia
Programmes include volunteering in orphanages, with animals, and more specialist programmes in arts & crafts, teaching, law, medicine and sports coaching. Please see the links to the booklets on the top right hand side of http://www.southampton.ac.uk/careers/students/volunteering/howto.html.
Programmes can run between June and August 2015. The suggested length of each programme is 3 or 4 weeks – GapFORCE will set up tailor-made programmes to suit a 3 week stay, although additional weeks may be agreed in discussion with Career Destinations. Please see above weblinks for indicative costs, exclusive of flights. Please note that sponsorship of £1,000 is available towards each successful applicant’s volunteering opportunity.
Please complete your application form online via our Volunteering SharePoint site https://groupsite.soton.ac.uk/Administration/Volunteering-University-of-Southampton/SitePages/GapFORCE.aspx by midnight on Sunday 29th March 2015. This is a private site accessed from your University of Southampton username, so please request access in good time so your membership can be approved. As there are a limited number of opportunities this will be a competitive process, so please consider your application carefully.
If you need any help and support with your application our student Career Drop-In service is available during the following times http://www.southampton.ac.uk/careers/students/support/appointments/
Shortlisted applicants will be called to interview during the end of April and, if successful, will be required to write a case study and give a short presentation upon returning to the UK.
