SEEN 3.10 Employability

Otterbourne primary school

Last month I attended the opening of Otterbourne school’s meadow room http://www.otterbourneprimaryschool.com/meadow.asp . They are very keen for their students to learn from you. Their year 6 students have an environmental week 24th-27th June and would like you to be involved in an activity. If you could like to be involved or have an idea for an activity, please let me know.

Hampshire Bioblitz

Katy Hooper, the organising of Hampshire Bioblitz would also really like you all to get involved. The event will be at a site called Crabtree on 22nd June and can be reached by public transport. Katy says that she would like to pair individuals up with an expert during  guided walks. She said you could also run an activity, preferably with an arts and crafts theme or (inspired by 1 group’s field trip presentation), perhaps get children to re-enact various animal behaviours. If you would like to be involved (you can be paired with an expert and also run an activity), please let me know.

Thailand English Teaching Project

Would you like to spend 8 weeks teaching English in Thailand this summer? You have to pay your travel costs but other costs are covered http://www.britishcouncil.org/thailand-teach-english-thailand-english-teaching-project.htm

Herpetology work experience (sent in by friend of SEEN, Rob Gandola)

“I am seeking expressions of interest from anyone with an interest in working on herpetofauna in Southeast Asia to assist with an exciting field project.
I have been running a herpetofauna monitoring and survey program in Sulawesi, Indonesia, for the past 12 years. This program has accrued some 12 years of systematic monitoring data on herpetofauna at a set of stratified rainforest sites. As such it is now a valuable long-term data set in the region, which is beginning to elucidate patterns of long-term change from human disturbance, and effects on herp assemblages from climatic variation. New species also continue to be discovered as we expand sampling in new areas.
I am seeking up to two people to work on this project for up to 8 weeks from late June through to early August. All travel and operating expenses will be covered, and all permit arrangements dealt with. Logistics and field support are also already in place. This is a great opportunity to work in a poorly accessed area with a unique and interesting herp diversity.
Anyone interested, please contact me.
Kind regards,
Dr Graeme Gillespie (Graeme.Gillespie@nt.gov.au)”
