Volunteers needed!

PhD student Becks Spake (supervised by Patrick Doncaster) is doing a systematic review to answer the question: Are younger planted and secondary forests less species rich than old-growth forests in temperate regions?

Whilst it widely known that species composition and richness in plantations and secondary forests can change dramatically with stand age, differences between forest stands across a range of ages have yet to be synthesised in a quantitative pan-global analysis. I want to collate published research that has looked at the relationship between forest stand age and biodiversity of lichens, fungi, beetles and plants in temperate and boreal forests globally, and use meta-analysis to identify how biodiversity changes with stand age. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis are becoming valuable research tools in ecology and conservation and involvement with one could be a valuable addition to your CV. If you are interested and would like to help out, that would be fantastic. Please contact me on rs15g08@soton.ac.uk . I also do mushroom surveys for another part of my project in the New Forest National Park during the Autumn months. If you are interested in helping out with fieldwork, then please get in touch!
