A special invitation from John Poland

For those of you hoping to pursue a career in ecological consultancy, Hampshire Ecological Services Ltd (run by Biological Sciences alumnus John Poland) will be offering intern and work experience opportunities this summer. Hampshire Ecological Services hope to help address the consultancy ‘skills gap’ and give graduates a head start in a competitive job market. John says “We offer high-quality training and demonstrate how ecological surveys are completed to a professional standard“. Interns will be given the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of surveys including bat and amphibian surveys between June and September. As these can involve late evenings and early mornings, availability at these times is key. Although not essential (if based in Southampton or willing to travel there), a car is beneficial and would enable interns to get more out of this opportunity. Successful interns will also gain an insight into the day-to-day running of a consultancy. If you are interested, please send your CV (for the attention of John Poland)

Business Innovation Programme

The Business Innovation Programme (formerly Student Consultancy) is now open for applications. Students from any degree discipline and year are eligible to apply – however if they are graduating and leaving the university this summer, they cannot apply. The Business Innovation Programme is designed to offer you the opportunity to gain invaluable experience of working on a real-life business issue put forward by local businesses or not-for-profit organisations. This is an opportunity to develop your business acumen, team working and problem solving skills by working on an 8 week project during term-time, in either Semester 1 or 2. The Business Innovation Programme is supported by IBM, who facilitate the training programme prior to projects commencing. Students will also receive £250 payment on completion of the project.
