Ada Lovelace day – thank you to those of you who came along to the events last week, they were very well received. In her talk, Emily Grossman highlighted the need for a culture change about how we perceive scientists. One interesting study she highlighted was the draw-a-scientist test. Student expect scientists to be men, with beards. Some of our staff fulfil this, others do not, but it doesn’t make them any less of a scientist http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/sce.3730670213/abstract. Be aware of your unconscious bias and those of others, which may affect their perception of you.

 

Chessel bay Autumn clean-up – Saturday 24th October 10am-2pm . Meet at Chessel bay (far end of Quayside road, Bitterne manor) any time between 10am and 1:30pm.

 

University Moth Challenge – Take part in the University Moth Challenge, a brilliant way to delve into the fascinating world of moths!
