SEEN 6.5 Southampton news

Southampton Natural History Society have 2 events before Christmas. It’s only £6 to join for a year. “This coming Saturday (12th) Julian Moseley is leading a walk in the NW of the New Forest, starting at Eyeworth Pond, Fritham (down the lane past the Royal Oak – SU 229145). The meeting starts at 1030 am and finishes at 3:30 pm. It is quite a long walk (5 miles) but there will be plenty of opportunity to return earlier if not intending to stay all day. Covering woodland, heath and the area around the pond. Interesting New Forest birds like Siskin, Goosander, Hen Harrier and Dartford Warbler have been seen in the past and with this mild weather a drop of sunshine could bring out one or two late butterflies. Our final talk of the year will take place at Edmund Kell Hall at 7:30 (doors open at 7) on Monday 14th December. Dr Ken Collins of the National Oceanography Centre will talk about marine habitats off the south coast of England, especially the sea grass Zostera beds and the native seahorses that live among them.” Their first talk of 2016 is on 7th January at NOCS on shark behaviour.

Our Ada Lovelace day speaker, Emily Grossman, spoke recently at a conference about sexism in science https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Mbv4FfFlIk
