From star contributor, Owen Middleton (thank you Owen!)

“If you want some fun animal facts, I watched Chris Packham’s Nature’s Wierdest Events at the weekend and everything featured on that was incredibly fascinating, including a strange – but amusing – coevolution between bat and plant, a cartwheeling spider and a uniquely adapted moth coccoon in the tropics! See them here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01pqmqq

“This would appeal to anybody with a research interest in human-wildlife conflict: an update on the population decline of snow leopards in retaliation to livestock predation. Across their range, snow leopards, like many large felids, have been prosecuted out of fear of livestock predation, with only 4,000 individuals estimated to be remaining. However, the transformation of a once heavily-hunted area into a wildlife sanctuary increased prey densities and saw the return of snow leaoprds to that area. This highlights the need to increase safety zones for both predator and  prey in conflict zones to reduce the chance of livestock predation and promote coexistence of humans and carnivores.
